4 Basic Girl On The Go Hacks for Cold Weather

It’s hard to imagine cold weather right about now as I sit on my sunny balcony. And still, the moment September rolls around my head is flooded with basic girl cozy weather notions.

And does anyone else scope out gorgeous Pinterest worthy lodgings like Whistler homes for sale like I do? While summer is typically ideal for vacation months, the Fall is where I indulge in dreamy cold weather staycations. I don’t really know what to do when it’s hot out, but let me tell you I’ve had lots of practice in being completely unprepared for braving the icy chill of a colder climate on many a vacation. Whether you live somewhere that gets cold or are just planning a staycation somewhere cold; these tips can prevent you from turning into a human-sized popsicle wherever you are.

Buy Warm Clothing

+But Make It Fashion

If you don’t already have knit wear, now is the time to get some. And no I’m not talking about your mother’s stockinette stitch sweater which I’m sure is lovely. We’re talking style and basic girl aesthetic. Oatmeal color and minimalist is an easy aesthetic when looking for knits. And don’t forget the statement coat. There’s no better time to invest in appropriately warm clothing like the present. Depending on how cold it is where you’re going, though, that might not be enough. And if you really struggle with cold weather, then investing in thermal underwear might be another option to keep warm when you’re out and about. I didn’t know that was a thing either! And, of course, the advantages of a a cute hat, scarf, and a good thick pair of gloves. If you expect to be walking across snow or ice, be sure to wear sturdy black boots with treads on the soles and more than one pair of socks to keep your feet from getting wet.

Stay Physically Active

+Stay Warm

While it might seem like cold weather is less conducive to getting exercise, that just makes it all the more important. This is usually when I lose all motivation to be active. When it’s cold out all I want to do is curl up under the covers with a mug of hot cocoa and just keep binging Netflix until it’s warm again. Not only is staying active important for fighting off winter weight gain, it’s also a good way of increasing your own body’s internal heat. In fact, if you ever find yourself as stranded survivors often do somewhere cold with few other options for warmth, you can rest assured that doing jumping jacks and other exercises will internally heat your body up! Yes you can build a sweat even the most inhospitable conditions!

Stay Hydrated

+Drink Your H20

Speaking as someone who generally doesn’t consume nearly enough water, I know it’s a struggle. The moment there’s a slight drop in temperature I’m tempted to get myself a hot coffee or latte. People often think that summer is when you need to stay the most hydrated. In fact, the colder months also do dry a body out just as quickly as hot sunlight. Frosty winds can add to that the increased activity and the heavy clothing you’ll be wearing, and it’s surprisingly easy to become dehydrated. And with perspiration at a minimum, it can be difficult to gauge how hydrated you actually are. No you can’t hydrate with pumpkin spice lattes so don’t even try it! It’s a good idea to keep a bottle of water on hand at all times. Just make sure it’s insulated so your tasty beverage doesn’t turn to ice. Resist the basic girl urge to head to Starbucks, but do get yourself a cute basic girl glass water bottle in rose gold if you like. So drink your water and stay hydrated from the inside!

Moisturize Your Skin

+ Hydrated Skin Is Happy Skin

As much as I love cold weather, my skin does not. This is the best time to layer up your thicker most hydrating moisturizers. Add a hydrating serum to up the hydration a notch or too. As mentioned above, cold temperatures can dry a person out just as much as hot ones, but without the added benefit of moisture in the air. Especially if you’re more used to humid climates, colder weather can wreak havoc on your skin, causing painful cracking and other forms of irritation. To keep your skin soft and healthy, make sure to bring along a supply of your favorite fragrance free moisturizer. In terms of the general lack of moisture in the air, a portable humidifier can increase the moisture content around you. And fun fact dry air can also get into your nasal passages which cause frequent nosebleeds. A portable humidifier is a great way to solution to both those issues!

I hope you enjoyed these basic and basic girl hacks for preparing for cold weather!
