7 Days of Chill Challenge- Day 3

Picture of coffee and a book

When was the last time you read a book? When was the last time you finished a book? That’s probably a better question for me since I’m ambitious enough to start books, but never finish them. Well on Day 3 of the 7 Days of Chill Challenge, I’m gonna set aside some time to just read. How calming does that sound right now?

Read To Get Lost

As a kid I loved to read! I not only aced my weekly reading log competitions, in grade school, but I distinctly remember feeling proud of how much my reading logs grew. I use to get so lost in books night after night with a flashlight in hand, I’d hide underneath the covers and enter a whole other world.

My imagination was so stimulated that you couldn’t convince me there was a better picture playing in the theaters. I really lived to clear out books by my favorite authors at the library. And then the internet became life.

I still really believe in that. I don’t think you could really compare a good book to any movie. There’s just some sort of magic that happens in your imagination. It’s kind of like a muscle in my opinion. I guess you could liken it to lifting weights, but for your brain.

Read To Shift Your Focus

When you read, you’re allowing yourself that mental stimulation. I think the older we get, the more we get comfortable with leaving any more learning, behind us. There’s always more opportunity to increase your vocabulary, improve your focus and any sort of analytical thinking. When you read you are also giving yourself that time to decompress. It’s a perfect distraction from any worries or stresses that might be weighing on your brain. Shift your focus when the day ends; read a book today!

If you don’t have any interesting books to choose from, check out The Perpetual Page Turner for some great fictional reads of 2020. And yes, I am a big lover of fictional novels still! Also Tamara Kalinic, one of my favorite YouTubers has a great list of Self-Improvement reads on her blog too!

I used to read constantly when I was a kid, too. Now I spend more time on my phone or computer than I do buried in a good book, and that makes me sad. Thanks for reminding me to put down my device and pick up a book more often!

Literally haven’t read a book since graduating last year! I think I needed a brain break 😂 but I’d love to get back into it! I used to be such an avid reader when I was younger!

Getting absorbed in a good book is the best feeling ever! And it’s way more rewarding and exciting than scrolling through social media!
