It wasn’t really until the age of influencers that self-care beauty maintenance or self-maintenance, or even self-care routines really became a thing. What is it and what are some at-home self-care beauty tips you can incorporate today?

Self-care is quite literally the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one’s own health according to Oxford Languages. And in 2022 we know that self-care goes beyond the care of just our external selves. Self-care is by no means limited to beauty rituals and practices, and in fact encompasses many different areas of our daily lives. Some of these areas include mental health, nutrition, sleep, reducing daily stress and personal care.

For many beauty rituals and beauty practices occur on a daily basis as a form of personal care and a form of self-care. And if you’re looking for a self-care routine that won’t cost you an arm and a leg then check out our tips today. #1 GET SMOOTH SKIN

Regularly exfoliating dead skin cells helps to cleanse and reveal a fresh layer of skin underneath, reducing the appearance of wrinkles, dark spots, and other imperfections. A simple way to do this is with a gentle scrub or facial brush. For those who want something more intensive, there are also special peels available that offer even better results.

Microneedling:

Microneedling is a great way to help improve the texture and tone of your skin. This treatment involves tiny needles that are used to puncture the skin in order to stimulate collagen production, which helps promote cell regeneration and reduce signs of aging.

Chemical Peel:

A chemical peel works to remove old, dead skin cells and stimulate collagen production for a healthy glow. It’s best to consult with your dermatologist before trying this at home so you can get the most benefit from the treatment. A natural more gentler alternative is to use a DIY mask made from yogurt and honey.

Dermaplaning:

Is the process of using a dermablade to clean the surface of your skin. The benefits of dermaplaning is that it gets rid of any peach fuzz on the skin while simultaneously exfoliating your face. It’s very low maintenance and makes your face a wonderful smooth base for skin care and makeup. It’s not nearly as scary as it sounds, but of course always use a clean dermablade and be careful not to nick yourself.

#2 GROW YOUR BROWS

If you have been wanting to grow out your eyebrows and lashes, there are a couple of ways to do this! You can either use natural oils or invest in a professional eyebrow and lash kit! With the right products, you’ll be able to get salon-level results without leaving your home.

There are plenty of oils you can use at home to grow full thick healthy lashes and brows. Personally I often use castor oil or coconut oil and typically at the end of my nighttime skin care routine. Lightly dab the tiniest amount of castor oil onto your lash bed and brows before going to bed. There are some notable brands as well that are hot on the market with their ability to grow lashes and brows. Vegamour do great vegan eyelash and brow growth The Lash Bond is another highly rated product.

Use Growth Treatment:

If you want to keep your brows and lashes looking full and healthy, then consider using a growth treatment. These products are formulated to help promote the growth of healthy hair follicles, while also conditioning the delicate skin around the eyes. Apply it as directed for best results!

Condition Your Brow/Lash Hair:

After using a growth treatment, you’ll want to keep your brows and lashes looking their best by regularly conditioning them. Use a product formulated for the delicate eye area to help nourish and protect the hairs, making them look thicker and healthier.

#3 Take Care Of Your mane

I am a big fan of at home hair treatments, particularly because it does take a lot to maintain my curly tresses. From hot oil treatments, to deep conditioning treatments and even just a good old strengthening hair mask, there’s always something you can do to get your mane in better shape. And the best part is there are just as many great natural ingredient home recipes as there are products.

I am a big fan of a deep conditioning hair treatment whenever I can get it. For someone who has naturally curly hair that often feels dry, a deep conditioning treatment is my best friend and sometimes I’ll do it two times a week. My one of choice is the HASK Repairing Sulfate-Free Deep Conditioner with Argan Oil. Another hair treatment I love doing is a hot oil treatment to repair dead ends. I often will take some coconut and olive oil mix them together and carefully heat them up and use. I also love the VO5 Hot Oil Treatment years later still. It always gets the job done!

Deep Conditioning:

Give your hair some extra love with a deep conditioning treatment. Use an intensive hair mask, let it sit for 15 minutes, then rinse with warm water to restore moisture and reduce breakage in the hair shafts.

Scalp Massages:

Stimulating your scalp helps improve circulation which encourages hair growth and minimizes hair loss. Gently massage a few drops of scalp oil (such as jojoba or peppermint oil) into your scalp using circular motions for a few minutes.

Hot Oil Treatments:

Oils treatments with ingredients like as argan and coconut can help nourish hair, reduce split ends and tame fizziness. Heat up the oil for a minute or two (in the microwave or on the stove) then massage it into your hair from root to tip. Cover with a shower cap, let it sit for 40 minutes, and rinse out with warm water afterwards.

Steaming Treatments:

Steam treatments can open hair cuticles, allowing moisture to penetrate more deeply while making hair look shinier and healthier overall. To steam at home, wrap your hair in a warm towel soaked in hot water for 10-15 minutes once every week or two weeks depending on the level of moisture your hair needs.

DIY Hair Mask:

Create a hair mask from natural ingredients found in your kitchen to give hair some extra love. Try combining one egg, a tablespoon of honey, and two tablespoons of olive oil for an intensive hair nourishing and hydrating mask. Apply the mixture to dry hair and leave on for 20 minutes before rinsing out with warm water.

#4 GIVE YOURSELF GLOWING SKIN

Facials are beneficial both mentally and physically, helping to reduce stress while improving skin tone and texture. While visiting a skincare expert will yield the best results, you can still enjoy a bit of skincare DIY at home. Try investing in an at-home facial steamer or use simple ingredients such as honey to create your own skincare masks. Or find yourself a facial regimen that is of quality and will give you the results you’re looking for versus spending that money at the salon.

I also am a big believer in creating a simple but effective daily skin care routine which I believe is the best dull skin treatment. Dull, dry and textured skin often is a result of clogged and dehydrated skin at least speaking from my own experience. I believe in using a deep cleansing facial wash daily. I think with all of the pollutants in the air and in our environment it’s very easy to get blockage and clogged pores. Since it’s not really feasible to hit the spa for a deep pore facial every day, it is possible to minimize the appearance with a daily routine. I love this Power Cleanse Duo by Dermalogica.

Pore Refining:

Using a pore refining mask is a great way to unclog your pores and help reduce the appearance of blackheads. Look for masks that contain ingredients like clay or charcoal which can help draw out impurities and toxins from the skin, leaving it looking smoother and brighter.

Microdermabrasion:

This is a exfoliating treatment that works to remove dead skin cells. It can be done with an at home device and works to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and even acne scars.

#5 TONE UP YOUR SKIN

Lymphatic drainage was a term I heard a few years back and since then have always made an effort to incorporate some method of that in my daily skin care routine. Not only is this technique important for lymphatic drainage but it also helps to depuff your face and is a great face message for glowing skin. I love using a jade roller or gua sha every morning and every night.

Lastly face sculpting is the latest craze and for good reason! With small but measured results, you can give yourself a natural facelift over time all from the comfort of your home. The NuFace is probably one of the hottest beauty tools out there today and they even came out with a mini NuFace perfect for when your out of town.

Facial Massage:

Regular facial massage can help to stimulate lymphatic drainage, reduce puffiness and promote circulation. Use your fingertips or invest in a jade roller for an extra luxurious spa experience! Don’t forget to apply a moisturizing oil or cream before beginning. This will ensure that your skin is well hydrated as you massage it.

Jade Roller or Gua Sha:

A jade roller is an ancient Chinese skincare tool made with natural jade stone that has cooling properties which help soothe skin and increase lymphatic drainage. Roll across the face gently in upward and outward motions to relax tension and improve circulation. To maximize results, store your jade roller in the fridge beforehand for added cooling effects!

Sculpting:

For an extra boost of pampering, try sculpting your face with a facial massager. This will help relax facial muscles while bringing more oxygen and nutrients to the skin. Start by cleansing and applying a serum or moisturizer before gently massaging your face in circular motions. Be sure to be gentle and move slowly for best results! Microcurrent devices are also great ways to further sculpt and tone the skin. These work by using low-level electrical currents to stimulate collagen production while providing lymphatic drainage and toning benefits.

#6 TEND TO YOUR NAILS

Some treatments for the nails include nail filing, taking care of cuticles, and applying cuticle oil. Filing the nails helps to keep them from becoming too long and jagged. Taking care of your cuticles can help keep your nails looking neat and healthy. Cuticle oil moisturizes the nail bed, which in turn helps nail growth by nourishing the nail bed with essential oils.

Regular nail maintenance is also an important part of self-care as it helps prevent any damage or breakage that could occur over time due to neglect. Try to dedicate some time each week to trimming, filing, polishing and moisturizing your nails so they stay in good condition all year round!

Treat yourself to a manicure and pedicure at home! This will help you pamper yourself while also keeping your fingers and toes looking fresh and healthy. Invest in some quality nail products like cuticle oils, nail files, and hand creams for best results.

Nothing says manicured and polished like a fresh mani/pedi treatment. With an at home nail kit you won’t have to wait until you are on your last nail, to go treat your nails. When I see a woman with a fresh mani/pedi I always think she’s got it together. So why not give yourself that special treatment whenever you need it! The Atralife Nail polisher Electric Manicure Pedicure Kit is a great solution for all of your manicure/pedicure needs.

Moisturize Your Cuticles:

It’s important to moisturize your cuticles to keep them soft and supple. Moisturizers help prevent nail damage, hang nails and split cuticles. Choose a nail cream that is specifically designed for nail care, as this will provide the best results. Make sure you massage it deep into the nail bed to give your cuticles the nourishment they need!

I love to apply cuticle oil to my nail bed as well, it’s been a well loved secret for many and makes a healthy environment for nail growth while keeping hang nails at bay. I love this one by French Girl Organics.

Give Yourself A New Set Of Nails:

There are plenty of acrylic set options out there if you really want to pamper yourself. These faux nails are perfect for special occasions, as they will give you a salon-ready look in no time. For an extra indulgent treat, choose a set of press-on nails with intricate designs or sparkly gems – guaranteed to make your hands stand out!

Get A Foot Peel:

Finally, try a foot peel to really give yourself the spa experience. Foot peels help remove hard and dead skin cells from the feet to reveal soft, new skin underneath. Use the product according to instructions and enjoy your newly-revealed baby soft feet!
