Forever Mood: Last Minute Panic
With Mother’s Day just around the corner, I thought I’d share an easy Mother’s Day themed brunch for a last minute DIY favorite. This is especially great for when your reservation for a swanky brunch falls through last minute. Luckily, my mother’s birthday is a week before Mother’s Day. So this past weekend I was able to put my creative and impromptu skills to the test.
I have to say that I really believe I could throw or host events for a living. I mean I love doing it and my mind goes into overdrive generating ideas. Maybe I’d consider it as a profession if the idea of being on someone else’s deadlines and budgets didn’t give me absolute anxiety.
In my opinion, it’s a lot more thoughtful putting in the time and effort into making a special, intimate brunch then it is going out and getting one of many gifts your mother will most likely never use. If she’s anything like my mother, stick to this DIY.
Visualize The Tablescape
The first thing that pops into mind when I plan on throwing a themed event are props. And I’m not talking about really tacky or over-the-top DIY looking props. I mean things you know you will need to get the scene right. When my reservation at a Parisian tea salon fell through, I decided to look at the salon menu pricing. For the cost of tea for two I could do this myself. I could do it better. So for $57.00 I had more than enough food for 4 people, pastries we didn’t finish and a cute teapot that was half full of delicious tea. So I’ll tell you what I got and where I went to buy my props which were also nice gifts too.
First stop- Marshall’s. I can pretty much always count on Marshall’s for just about everything I need. I knew I wanted a cute teapot and a pastries stand with a dome for my display and as gifts. Both things I loved and was able to find there.
A Light Brunch With Options
I picked up some pistachio macaroons at Marshall’s too and some delicious teas as they offered a variety. Lastly I found a cute little nostalgic creamer container. I spent approximately $30.00 at Marshall’s.
Next stop the grocery store. On my grocery list: cheese, herb crackers, sandwich bread and deli meat for tea sandwiches and cottage cheese. I added deviled eggs to the array later(but I already had those at home). I decided I’d pick up some more dessert options including a loaf of pound cake, strawberries. I spent about $12.00 at Ralphs.
Lastly I just needed a white table cloth and some green moss stones. I like to use these with flowers to give off that English garden tea experience. I spent about $5.00 that was it. Considering we had a great time, the brunch was not only a complete surprise, but also a complete success for the birthday girl!
