Are Gel Creams Any Good?
I don’t know if anyone else has noticed, but water gel moisturizers seem to be dominating the skin care shelves at the minute. As someone who has suffered with eczema in the past and frequent dry skin, I do typically tend to prefer a richer consistency for a moisturizer than a water gel.
I have never really come across any, that I felt were sufficient in providing my skin with enough moisture. However much instant hydration there was, it seemed always to be a fleeting thing. But with the summer heat very much prevalent, my dry skin has been in serious need of quenching and was I pleasantly surprised to find a water gel moisturizer with hyaluronic acid. I’ve been loving this new addition to my skin care and I definitely had to share! As of recently I’ve have been testing out the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream for Extra Dry Skin which if I remember correctly is also the fragrance-free version.
Water Loss?
When I came across Dermatologist Dr. Dray a YouTuber, but primarily a professional in the skin care industry– I learned so much about this thing called transepidermal water loss. This loss of water occurs in the epidermis after washing your face. According to Dr. Dray, implementing a hyaluronic product post face wash can prevent this water loss acting as a humectant and therefore retain more moisturized, supple healthy looking skin.
Holding It’s Weight
The way Hylauronic Acid works is to hold up to 1000 times its weight in water. After using a hyaluronic acid it’s important to seal in that moisture with a moisturizer or a product that is occlusive. I don’t think I ever really gave hyaluronic acid a chance in the past and I definitely didn’t know how to use it properly or if it was even effective at all. With the Neutrogena Hydro Boost containing hyaluronic acid I tend to apply it immediately after washing my face and follow with a moisturizer. I’ve been really enjoying the way my skin looks and really love the added moisture my skin is in need of during these summer months.
Tall Drink of Water
I for one, am a skin care junkie that appreciates when my skincare products are effective, but also actively doing something for my dry skin. That’s precisely why I didn’t just want to get a product that was only a moisturizer. Hyaluronic acid is an important tool in the hydration of skin and it’s definitely hard at work in the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream.
I’ve been so pleased as to how I look like I have supple skin again! Also I’ve been truly loving this stuff under my eyes, it’s super comfortable and doesn’t irritate me in the slightest bit. I will be going to New York next weekend and I can’t wait to take this on my carry-on and use it as a hydration packed sleeping mask! I’ll keep you updated post travel and let you all know how my skin held up in the air!
