Quarantine. A word I’m surprised I have to use to describe our current climate. I won’t even say that other odious word because I can’t even believe I’m making a post on how to cope with quarantine and social isolation. I’m well equipped in this area, but a lot of people aren’t and sometimes that can make you feel down and even depressed. So I’m here to give you some helpful and hopeful ideas!
Read A Book
I’m currently loving Courtney Peppernell’s “I Hope You Stay” it’s been so long since I’ve really been into poetry. If that is something that one can actually fall out of, but you know it’s its own genre. And I find that I usually have to be in the mood to read some. I only just picked this one up the other day as I stumbled into the bookstore. I actually could not put it down. It’s quite beautiful and the poetry so relatable in all things dealing with the heart. Now is such a great time to reconnect with the sort of books you use to have such a passion for, but I think it’s time I reintroduce myself to maybe some of the newer stuff that’s out there. And best yet, you don’t even have to leave the house to order a book. Thank god for the internet.
Tidy Up
And to be totally transparent, it wasn’t even my intention to organize my entire walk in closet, but I must have been incredibly excited about being productive during this period of self isolation. I really hit the ground running on only day two. It is so incredibly gratifying to know that everything in your closet has a place neatly tucked away or purged. And let me tell you there should almost always be a purge when clearing out your closet. It can be so therapeutic to get your shit organized! I even managed to put up a mirror by the door and some artwork so now my walk in closet feels like a nice little get ready area.
Work On Something
I know so many people that always complaining about not having the time to get into something they’ve wanted to do for a while be it a hobby or business venture, podcast, music etc. Now is the perfect time. And before you object just go ahead and start it today!! Whatever it is, no excuses. I’ve been meaning to spend more of my free time writing up content for future blog posts and taking extra photos for my candle studios Instagram feed. I actually did some of that on day two as well. Day two was quite productive.
Just Relax
Please know that despite what you may be hearing out there or even seeing on this post, you can absolutely just do nothing during this quarantine. Just relax dude. Do you have any idea how much value there is taking care of your body, mind and soul? It’s absolutely necessary. Like Jesus please go and put a nice face mask on, light some candles, take a bubble bath—-it’s all good just know you deserve it. Everyone does. Reconnect with calm and relaxation.
Binge On Flix
If you’ve never watched an episode of Peaky Blinders please start now. That’s always going to be my first recommendation. Thank me later. The Outsider another fave. Happy Valley, Bates Motel…there are just so many Netflix bangers
Home Fitness
I would imagine the gym is one of those places we’re avoiding at this time so there are plenty of at home exercises you can do. You can do simple resistance bands Pilates exercises, beginners Yoga, lunges, squats, push ups…and it’s all available to you on YouTube. Blogilates is a Youtuber I follow for short easy to follow exercises. Working out can be a great release during this stressful time so get it in whenever you can. I did a blog post on HIIT so here are some more exercises you can do!
Hopefully that can give you some idea of things to do during this quarantine / social isolation. And just remember it is 2020, most of us do have access to FaceTime if you’re really desperate for that human interaction.
