I don’t know if anyone else feels this way, but September gives me lots of feels for many reasons. Not only is it the advent of so many Autumnal vibes, but it also is a transition into another busy season. For those of us no longer in school, that continual pressure to stay booked and busy lives on still at least for another couple of months until it’s time to hibernate in winter. How do you maintain your work flow while not totally losing your head? I’m here to give you some ideas on how I keep calm and carry on.
Lately I’ve been doing things a bit different to my usual self. Goal setting. Making plans. Staying organized. I’ve always been accustomed to living on the fly and not holding myself to any concrete plans so that I may have room for changes. Be it hanging out with friends, or trying to get started on working towards some personal goals, I rarely do plans which means that I’m not the most organized individual. Unless it’s travel, I seem to only ever have room to plan a trip and don’t get me started I have an itinerary for everything. Yes it’s a flaw.
But as I continue to dream and scheme up and make my own moves I have been working on maintaining a healthy balance of staying productive, organized, and goal-driven. In that I’ve been able to see things laid out in front of me a bit more and it’s kept me from totally being overwhelmed with life panic. Here are my Top 5 Tips to keep calm and accomplish goals:
Write It Down
Whatever your goals maybe whether it’s a trip somewhere, a career move or buying a house—seeing it written down helps. Visualization really is key. Look at it everyday, look at it often. Dreams written down become goals. Period.
Set Time Frames
No matter what your goals are, if they never come to fruition then it’s a moot point. Don’t worry. Keep calm. Set a realistic time frame for yourself or set a date for when you’d like to be closer to that goal. It really helps me to make a list of things I need to get done. I’ve been making lists for the week, sometimes even the day that I need to check off. And then I’ll also have a list for what I need to get done by a specific month. The closer your are to your goal the better so don’t be discouraged if you still feel way off. Every inch closer counts.
Be Productive
Now is the time to utilize any free time you have. Make every day a day that you are closer to accomplishing your dreams. Do at least one productive thing each day and if you have some free time to spare, use it as an opportunity to cross some things off that list.
Prioritize
As someone who wasn’t always use to making plans, that usually meant I was saying yes to just about every opportunity to do things I enjoyed. Don’t get me wrong, doing things you enjoy is not a waste of time at all, but sometimes you have to give a hard no to these things if you want to be closer to getting sh** done. That’s mostly a reminder for myself by the way.
Stay Calm
Lastly, maintaining some sort of level of sanity and groundedness is highly important to accomplishing anything. I have found that my Hot yoga class each week is exactly what I need for both my mental and my body. I always leave feeling just a little bit more centered. Long luxurious baths have also been my thing as of late. So be sure to take that time to regroup and find your calm.
