Visions Of A Gentle Coast

Mykonos

 Mykonos

We spent a couple of blistering hot days and crazy nights in Athens, which was a wonder of a city in itself. Something about trekking through an ancient citadel in the Acropolis during the day and bar hopping in swanky bars at night with even swankier bartenders who act no different than American boys– can leave you a little emotionally displaced.

The only thing we seemed to agree on that trip was that a bar definitely makes a great accessory for a man and that Greek salads had forever changed our views on salads. Making it to Mykonos was no small excursion especially when you and your best friend aren’t exactly on speaking terms. It was without speaking that we managed to miss the only ferry making its way to Mykonos for the day. One day later, and in a much sober state, we were on our way to a Mediterranean paradise.

I still get flashbacks of the Caprice bar where the two of us danced the night away on an island off the southernmost coast of the Aegean sea. Inside of the bar I remember standing next to the iconic blue window door and I could feel the water which was high enough to splash at my feet. It felt just like it sounds, wild and free and youthful and all of the things you’d expect to feel when you’re young and traveling in one of the most glamorous islands in Greece. Although at the time I didn’t know it was so glamorous, all I knew was there’s a magic about this place. The gentle coast carries a breeze that’s soft and light, but also heavy and warm enough to touch your soul for many reasons. It’s strange to miss and feel nostalgic about a place when you haven’t even left yet.
