So it’s July and yes we are still dealing with the wrath of COVID-19 and all the other issues going on in the world. While we’re all forced to stay at home for what feels like indefinitely, I do have to say that I am totally buzzing off of what people are making out of this situation. I’ve been especially inspired by people making the moves to create their side hustle / at-home business! This is the kind of energy I feed off of and it’s even lit the fire under my own derrière!
Looking back at the beginning of all of this I told myself I would take the time to really enjoy balancing my time in quarantine with self-care and productivity. And then 2020 got infinitely worse. However, this time around, and yes it feels like we’re in the throes of another wave of both COVID and a Civil Rights Movement–I’ve been focusing more on productivity. Suddenly I feel so motivated to get things going and make some moves for myself and my own side hustle!
June Boomin With Business
The month of June was good to me and seeing the support of people I didn’t even know really gave me a sense of value as someone wanting to grow my candle business Jipsē Co! Maybe it’s that coupled with the occasional sunshine I’ve been allowing myself on the weekends now or the fact that my birthday is right around the corner, but I’ve been really focused on accomplishing my business goals this year.
Promises + Productivity
Earlier in the year, I told myself I would give myself wholeheartedly to my blog and my candle business. I made my short list of things I wanted to accomplish in the near future and I can happily say I’ve been making some strides. I do have to admit that I’m the sort of person that will get a gust of wind in whatever project I’m working on, and that’ll deflate not very long after in this sort of lull. So when I do find the inspiration to work on something I absolutely have to take advantage of that. Lately I’ve dedicated most of my time to this blog. And now I find myself, redirecting some of that to my business.
My Candle Business/Brand
If you didn’t already know I do have a candle business called Jipsē Co. I started making candles in 2015 as a way to recreate scent stories around the travels I’ve done. It was my way of being creative and I guess somewhat allowed me to be a creative director of my own vision. First came the story, then came the scenario, then followed my recreation of moment by way of handcrafting home fragrance. I love perfume and I love candles and home decor so this was a no brainer to me at the time.
Believing In The Value
My candles felt special to me and unique and I eventually put them on Etsy. I’ve seen myself go from amateur to artisan and I do have to say I love my candles. Everything else from this point froward is truly about matching my brand aesthetics with my vision for the brand and also being able to break through with marketing strategies. My new goal is approaching the wholesale market. And I will do it too! You can hold me accountable to that at the end of the year.
I am grateful for the time indoors and the ability to connect with other creatives and entrepreneurs online. It has definitely given me the desire to go further and keep pushing for more. It’s helped me learn more about the ins and outs of a business and has been helping me grow overall.
