We can all benefit from learning various ways to save money during this time. Reaching your own personal finance goals takes some strategizing and part of that is figuring out where you can trim the spending fat. Down below are 6 Easy Tips on How To Save Money Weekly.
#1 Dine In
Cooking at home is one of the best ways to save money! Speaking from experience, it’s quite easy to drop a cool $30 on a Postmates meal (deliver fee included). And if you’re a couple then imagine that $60 on one meal for the night! Do you know how much $60 can get you at the grocery store?? I’m slightly yelling at myself here because I’m definitely guilty on easy and convenient but pricey meals.
One of the biggest expenses I noticed that was massively reduced for me when COVID hit was eating out! I actually took some time to look back at my bank statements to see what changed about my personal finances and spending pre/post COVID. Obviously the fact that I was staying in more and eating out less was a huge factor.
One of the easiest ways to start saving every week is to stop eating out and cook at home! Plan your meals for the week and grocery shop for healthy bulk items like grains, but also veggies and protein! Why not try and recreate your favorite dishes too! Quick and Easy Low Carb Meal
#2 Stay In
Again, one of the best ways to save money is to stay in and avoid the temptations! I know that pre COVID, after work and on my free time I’d spend all day outside. For me being outside meant a lunch here, a snack there, a coffee here and somethings from Target that I had no idea I was going to purchase there…
The point is, sometimes spending money has to do with spending money because you’re out. We don’t realize all of the tiny impulse buys add up! Fifty dollars for an entire days worth of small impulse buys is not great if you are looking for ways to save money.
When COVID forced us indoors all day for weeks and weeks, the need to spend just sort of left me. It was almost like being without sweets for so long that you don’t even really desire sweets anymore. Not spending money is going to take a little bit of practice, but practice makes permanent. Save money each week by staying in more!
#3 Plan Your Next Hangout
Of course not spending any money is one of the best money saving tips, but we still need to live a little. When I look back at the days where I’d spend just about every weekend with friends, it shocks me at how frivilous I was with my money. It never even crossed my mind back in those days. I use to have the mindset that I was just going to spend what I had to spend when I was out. The problem was I had no restrictions.
Now that I’m an adult and my priorities are a bit different, I’m perfectly fine with really getting together with friends once a month! If you’re a teen or in college, this might not seem doable for you, but the reality is when you are in a group of friends it’s often so easy to do all of those things that require spending! But when your goal is to be in control of your personal finances, then that starts with not going out every weekend and not spending! Save money each week by seeing your friends less, and planning your next hangout.
#4 Be Your Own Barista
This one hits different. To know me is to know that I have a coffee addiction. I am Ethiopian after all. Buying coffee while I’m out and about was always more than just a need for caffeine. There’s something about having a coffee when I’m out that just makes me smile. A $5 cup of coffee may not seem like that big of a deal but two coffees a day for 7 days a week, is probably a bit excessive.
I’ll be honest I still do enjoy a cup of coffee when I’m out and about on the weekend as my sort of treat. However, I make my own coffee at home Monday through Friday and no I don’t miss Starbucks. Do yourself a favor and get yourself a canister of Cafe Bustelo and an Italian coffee pot and you may never go back to Starbucks again. It’s important to practice saving money like it’s your job and spending money like it is a treat and not the other way around! Making your own coffee at home is a great way to save some money each week!
#5 Salon Chez Moi Anyone?
I’ve never been someone who’s had monthly appointments at the hair salon. However, I use to enjoy myself a mani/pedi every now and then, and even then I’m talking once every few months! Now I’m not judging anyone, but salon costs can be a bit of a luxury you can do without while trying to save money. If you love getting your nails done and can’t imagine not having perfectly manicured nails then check out my post on How To Get Salon Quality Nails In No Time. There are countless styles to choose from and the quality is superb. As far as your hair coloring is concerned if you can’t get away with a simple box dye, then try to extend the length of time between your salon appointments by using these L’Oreal Root Cover!
#6 Avoid Sales
Save yourself the conversation you’re about to have with yourself on this one. If you weren’t planning on buying something before a sale was brought to your attention then you definitely don’t need it!
Don’t be on the hunt for sales and discounts, not in person or online! The idea that you’re saving money by spending money will just never make sense when you are trying to reach your goal of saving money. If it’s nothing you need right now, then don’t go looking for it!

I definitely need to dine in more and stop spending unnecessary money when there is food in the house. Thanks for writing this.
COVID really helped me and my husband get better about saving money on the regular. We very rarely eat or go out anymore and while we have spent more money on groceries, we’re definitely spending less in the long run. This was a great post. Thank you for sharing.
Haha these are all good tips. I stay at home as much as possible but it’s still hard to avoid Amazon. We don’t really eat out so we save money that way. Once in a while we treat ourselves.
Boy does eating out get me! I get lazy and don’t feel like cooking and then we are spending money on food. Plus, I like to pretend to be online shopping and add a bunch of items to my cart and then close the tab. Saves me so much money. These are some great tips!
