On today’s challenge we are going to consider cooking tonight’s dinner. More specifically cooking a nourishing and healthy meal. I know it’s nothing extraordinary. In fact, many of you probably do this daily! I am NOT one of those people. I don’t cook everyday and if most of you have been following me on this blog, then you know I’m a quick cook. I like easy and fast recipes and that’s typically how I cook, if at all. Today’s Day 4 of the 7 Days of Chill Challenge focuses on taking just a little bit of extra time to cook up a healthy, hearty and nourishing meal.
Why Cook?
There’s something to be said about preparing your own meal. And I’m not talking about slapping together a sandwich like I did the other night! I mean really being mindful about the meal that is going to be nourishing your body. For some of my prior posts and meal ideas click here.
Prior to COVID, I told myself I’d be more conscious of what I eat. And now that I work from home, I’m even surprising myself with my meal choices as of late. I have to admit that I have been really…lazy. I’ve been at home for almost two months now and I can sadly count the number of times I put together a thoughtful meal on just one hand! That’s…embarrassing. And I can’t even really blame it on the lack of stocked groceries at the store anymore. At least at the start of this pandemic, that was my excuse. Anyway I digress.
What we consume is our choice and sometimes it takes a challenge to even put the effort in feeding ourselves with good food. Take some time out today to really think about your relationship with food. It is fuel for our body, but that’s not all it is. I really like blogger Megan Hallier ‘s post on Mindful eating: 5 simple ways to be present while you eat.
Sitting down and having a meal that is not only filling, but also delicious and healthy can do wonders. Enjoy the meal, slow down and take your time. Too often we’re so hurried and overzealous about eating that we (myself included) will scarf down what’s in front of us too quickly. Today is about eating good food and the time you give yourself to really experience the good it’ll do for you.
