In true fashion I am late to the game with my goal setting for the new year. However, it’s still January and there’s still plenty of time to inspire commitment and motivation. There are actually a number of things that come to mind when I think of what I would like to accomplish by the end of the year. That can be overwhelming, so I decided that the best route for me to take would be to set at least 3 goals that I could stay committed to and motivated for this year!
Staying committed can be…hard. But as one of my favorite teachers use to say –“Practice makes permanent.”
Goal #1
Staying committed to a fitness regimen. Motivation to get in shape.
This is probably the number one most common goal for the new year for most people. However, I feel like keeping with fitness takes a lot more dedication than just getting in shape because like every year I fall off that express train and find myself a little less motivated and little bit heavier months down the road. So this year I plan to stay active and maintain a regular fitness regimen.
Goal #2
Committing to learning Italian. Motivation to communicate in one of my favorite countries.
I have always had being fluent in a language at the top of my list for years! And I can say that I picked up bits and pieces of a couple of languages here and there. But it wasn’t until I studied abroad that I fell in love with Italian. There was a point in time where I was able to have full conversations with people in Italian. Every time I went back to Italy I would tell myself that I would absolutely learn it if it were the last thing I’d do—and all of a sudden it’s a year later and I forgot to keep up with learning it again. So my goal this year is to commit to studying the language.
Goal #3
Committing to to my personal branding. Motivation to develop my own sense of style aesthetic.
And what I mean is keeping motivated and productive in terms of my career aspirations. I don’t typically love the sound of personal branding because it feels like I’m talking about myself as a commodity. But, I feel like it’s a good way to think of yourself as being in the business of you– which I feel is much more important than being so overly devoted to just have a steady 9-5 for the rest of my life. I’ve always believed in becoming someone who is self-sufficient and maybe it’ll take baby-steps, but I am determined to staying committed to getting to where I want to be one day.
