The city of Rome is more than a hustle and bustle. I’m immediately transported back to my days studying abroad. The second we hit traffic in our taxi from the airport, things got interesting. As our taxi driver and an almost colliding bus driver start arguing with each other, motioning with their hands- – I take a long deep sigh of relief. I am so happy to be back to the country I love so damn much.
Although Rome was a major transition city while I traveled, this time we were spending a couple of days here before heading down south to Sorrento.
The Italians
It’s hard not to pay any attention to the fact that it’s 80-90 degrees outside and the Italian men are perfectly polished in their suits without breaking a sweat or the Italian women who are effortlessly put together wearing heels on their Vespa. How they do it is probably what is so quintessentially Italian.
There’s a confidence in the Italian people that I envy entirely. From the way they talk to the way they dress, Italian is definitely a way of being and I think it’s beautiful. Speaking of beautiful, Italy has the most gorgeous shades of Pantone that you can imagine. What a colorful life it is to live in Italy, literally.
Restless In Rome
After having survived nearly 48 hours without sleep I had one thing on my mind. I had been craving a cappuccino the moment I got on the plane in California and I was elated at the fact that 7 years later un cappuccino was still only a euro.
Having seen St. Peter’s Basilica, the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and the Spanish steps for the second time now–I’m more than satisfied with our two day sojourn in the city. Although I know there’s plenty more to see next time around, for now we’ll say ci vediamo Roma! I know I’ll be back here again.
A prossima volta Roma! Off to Napoli! Check out my next post on Golden Summer On The Amalfi Coast
There is definitely an elegance associated with the Italian culture, isn’t there. I have always been so taken by the photographs that I see from the area, including the ones in this post. I hope to make the trip out to see Rome myself some day (more than just from a plane – I did sit in a plane there during a short layover… not even long enough for them to have us get off lol)
