Think Dirty, It’s Good For You

Ever wonder how good your skin care products are for your skin? With the amount of products on the market it’s hard to trust the quality of every product we come across.

Being an avid skin care junkie I’ve tried everything from high end brands down drugstore brands that are more affordable. Like a lot of people I believed the more expensive the product the better quality ingredients it contained.  I mean that is the case perhaps with how effective a product may be, but not necessarily how many clean a product is.

I also wondered about the effectiveness and what good things were being done for my skin slathering on the same cleaners, serum, moisturizers  day after day. That’s when I did some research and discovered Think DirtyWhat I love about this app is that it allows you to do an unbiased product comparison, identify the potential risks and offers you some similar, cleaner products you may want to check out.

Think Dirty allows you to look at the specificities of a product’s ingredients. A scale determining a products cleanliness in terms of its carcinogens, development and reproductive toxicity and allergies and immunotoxicities ranges from 0 being the cleanest to 10 the dirtiest. These are things I never really thought about. But with what we’ve discovered over the years and all of the health scares we’ve been told are directly linked to some personal skin care products, it makes sense to be more aware and alert about things that we use daily which could put our health at risk. The app then gives you recommendations for more natural and choose equally effective and healthier ingredients instead.

I can’t say that I’ve given up a lot of the skin care products in my bathroom shelf, although the items I use are relatively clean anyway aside from fragrance which I don’t prefer, but don’t mind–it has made me more alert to the types of carcinogens or toxic chemicals that might be in a product I’m considering. I would recommend this app to anyone, because everyone deserves the right to information about what they put on and absorb through their bodies.
