Calling all Oat milk lovers, today’s post is for you! So I’ve recently been doing an overhaul on my diet and have been really making an effort to clear out the muck. I wouldn’t say that I have the worst diet, but even still most of the foods I’ve been consuming are filled with a ton of ingredients that have such a big impact on the body. A lot of the products I consume are just not kosher when it comes down to it. Oat milk, my favorite coffee creamer was just one of those things. So I decided I would make my own Oat milk at home!
The New Hipster Milk
Oat milk is heaven sent for people like me. If you’re like me, your morning coffee needs to have some body if you know what I mean. I always found other non-dairy milks to be just a bit too watery for my liking. When I finally gave Oat milk a try, that was a game changer.
As I’ve started my quest to a healthier and cleaner diet, I’ve been reading the ingredients on everything that’s labeled. What I have quickly come to realize is that you really do have to dissect the fine print. When it comes to the ingredients the best piece of advice that I can give you is if you can’t pronounce it, don’t eat it.
Always Read The Fine Print
I soon came to learn that most of the store bought packaged food and beverage products are full of questionable ingredients. These ingredients could potentially contribute to inflammation in the body. If you know anything about inflammation then you know that can cause a whole host of issues. Perhaps you’re suffering from eczema, IBS, asthma, hair loss even! Inflammation is all too common and we could probably attribute that to the Standard American Diet or SAD as it’s often referred to.
If you want to learn more about non-dairy milk alternatives in particular and the common ingredients to look out for, then check out One Green Planet blog. The blog does a beautiful job at breaking down exactly why your favorite non-dairy milk might not be as healthy as it seems. Definitely check it out if you’re like me and might be concerned that whatever is going on in your body might have to do with what you’re putting in it!
Now for the good news! It’s super simple to make your own Oatmilk at home! Today’s Oat milk recipe is super simple and free of any added sugars or “gums” which you’ll find in just about every non-dairy milk.
INGREDIENTS:
1 Cup Rolled Oats (gluten free)
1/3 Cup Raw Cashews
3-4 Medjool Dates (pitted)
A Pinch of Sea Salt
- Blend all of your ingredients on high for ONLY 30 seconds. This is important unless you want slimy Oat milk. We definitely do not want to over blend.
- You can use a nut milk bag or sieve to get the pulp out leaving behind only creamy goodness!
- Voila! That’s it enjoy!
This recipe seems super easy. I used to not be a fan of milk alternative but they have really grown on me.
