This week I’m posting the ultimate list of black owned businesses on my blog. In lieu of the Black Lives Matter movement and the changes that I believe are happening around the world, I decided I would do whatever it takes to keep the same energy going. There has never been a movement that I’ve been more passionate about then advocating for the justice and equality of black people, my own people. And in some small way I wanted to offer up my contribution so I’ve compiled a list of black owned businesses in 10 different industries thus far. It’s a list that I intend to grow because I’m not only so incredibly sensitive about black success, but I genuinely think we need to spread the love around to brands and businesses that don’t get nearly enough attention.
Acting Against Racism
It may not be readily apparent on this blog that I’m an East African American chic; but there’s never been a time that I’ve been more proud to have roots to the Motherland. It’s a weird thing to talk about for a lot of people I’m sure; but it’s been a hard long battle for black people and continues to be.
Racism has been rampant in the U.S. and other parts of the world for so long. It’s become so prevalent that we’ve even normalized it and normalized how to be around it. Racism and otherism are such powerful and atrocious weapons in this world. And while they have been used on people of color all around the world; it is no longer hard to see it play out in real life for black people. Racism on a devastating scale has been lethal, we know this. We’ve all seen the videos. But on perhaps a smaller scale and one that’s not so discernible it’s kept people from totally integrating and embracing black communities and black owned businesses.
Diversifying Every Day Life
I truly believe that we can take the steps as human beings to right the wrong, making actionable and conscious choices going forward by diversifying. I believe it is so important for the black community to strengthen itself and show love for itself. And for others who are not black or people of color to make an effort in showing that love as well is just as crucial!
We are all one people at the end of the day, let’s destroy racism by acting against it. Let’s destroy hate, by showing love. Let’s show each other that we can support each other! Going forward if you’d like to stay on top of this list you can find it here on the blog! From black owned fashion brands to black owned online bookstores and so much more!
