I have always been a big fan of quick healthy breakfast to go ideas. Breakfast is often my greatest opportunity to pack my morning meal with loads of nutrients. My favorite way to do it is usually with a breakfast smoothie. I always try to incorporate fruits and veggies that are nutrient and antioxidant rich in a morning smoothie blend because I like knowing that I’ve started the day off right. It isn’t always the easiest to wake up feeling refreshed and ready to go on a Monday morning, so I know it’s going to take a reset to get the week off to a good start. The best way I know how to do that is with a quick healthy breakfast to go!
Antioxidants In Food
Were you ever curious about why antioxidants are important or what antioxidants do? Well antioxidants are generally known as substances that protect the cells in your body against damaging free radicals. Our bodies and cells will produce waste substances as explained in Medical News Today and in order to remove and process those waste substances-we need the assistance of antioxidants. Antioxidants are crucial to our health which is why today’s recipe is full of them.
Antioxidant Rich
Now I don’t know if you know much about red cabbage, but this dark purple vegetable has a wealth of benefits! It also happens to be one of my favorite ingredients in smoothies these days. Red cabbage is not only antioxidant rich but also rich in fiber, which helps with immune function, reduces inflammation, reduces free radicals, etc. It’s also is anti-aging, great for the skin, has cancer-fighting properties, aids in weight loss and the list goes on!
Strawberries are a great source of antioxidants as well and have been known to lower blood pressure and reduce inflammation. Surprisingly enough it also assists in weight loss. Without any hesitation, I will be tossing a handful into the blender. Most of us already know the abundance of antioxidants in blueberries as they are also packed full of them. I absolutely love adding them to the mix of course!
Next I like to add a spoonful if flaxseeds which are high in omega fats, antioxidants and are also known to have cancer-protecting properties. Lastly half a cup of probiotic packed yogurt (these days I prefer coconut milk yogurt) and half a cup of Cranberry juice which we all know is great for your kidneys and we’re ready to go!
