What Is A Hot Oil Treatment?
A hot oil treatment is a hair treatment that uses various natural and nurturing oils that work to nourish the hair. Hot oil treats are good for protecting your hair as well as repair damage done to your strands by replenishing your strands with important nutrients and then sealing them. They’re the best at home hair repair treatment to use on occasion to soften dry damaged hair and really all hair types.
When Should You Use A Hot Oil Treatment?
The best time to apply a hot oil treatment is when your hair is clean. You may not realize it, but if your hair is dirty or if you have product in your hair especially anything with silicones–you won’t get the full benefits of the oil treatment on your scalp. The oil will just sit on top of your hair.
What Are The Benefits of Hot Oil Treatments?
Hot oil treatment for dry damaged hair is a miracle treatment. I often have dry hair and an even drier scalp. Hot oil treatments are a fantastic way to not only deep condition your strands but also stimulate and moisturize your scalp. If you have eczema, dandruff or psoriasis, this treatment is a great way to help you resolve those issues.
Hot oil treatments are a nourishing treatment that work to strengthen your strands by sealing your hair cuticles. This makes them an amazing solution to frizzy hair and also split ends. One of my favorite times to use a hot oil treatment is also the week before I plan on dyeing my hair. It’s a great way to strengthen your strands and protect from further damage of the air dye.
How Should You Apply A Hot Oil Treatment?
Make sure your hair is clean first so the oil can really penetrate your scalp and strands. You can wash your hair right before, damp hair is actually best for this process.
Next take your hot oil treatment of choice and either place it the microwave for 10 seconds or place it in a bowl of medium warm for 2 minutes if it’s in a tube.
Next comb out your hair so it’s easy to apply the oil treatment evenly.
Apply the hot oil treatment evenly to your strands and massage the oil into your scalp. This is a great opportunity to give yourself a nice stimulating scalp massage which promotes hair growth.
Next cover your hair with a shower cap and let sit for a good 20-30 minutes.
Follow up with your favorite conditioner and your all done!
How Often Should I Apply A Hot Oil Treatment?
If you don’t have super dry hair then try to apply a hot oil treatment at least once a month. That should be good enough! I am on a little bit of a healthy hair growth journey and sometimes do it up to two to three times a month and I’ve definitely noticed a difference in both the health of my hair and the growth rate.
