A repost from Juneteenth, today we have another black owned business post! What a great day to celebrate and commemorate some more amazing creators in the black community! I am all too excited to share just a fraction of amazing designer clothing brands in the fashion industry. I will make a genuine effort to mop up the drool from my mouth.
Bohemian Barbie
I’ll go ahead and start with a luxury clothing brand that I’ve been following for a while. Brother Veilles is the brainchild of Aurora James who’s commitment to artisanship and authenticity goes above and beyond. If I could describe the vibe and aesthetic of this brand it would be Brooklyn Bohemian meets African Artisan. That is pretty much everything that I would want to be if I were a clothing brand.
What I find so inspiring about Aurora and Brother Veilles is the fact that they produce their items by way of working directly with locals all over Africa. Not only does this mean that there’s true value in each artisanal handcrafted item, but it also means that there are jobs for the locals. And that is commendable and exciting for this East African chic.
Beach Babe
If it weren’t for my newfound quest to support more black owned businesses, I would probably have never made my list. Had I never done that I would never have come across this amazing clothing line. Andrea Iyamah was born from Nigerian fashion designer Dumebi Iyamah. His focus on prints and bold colors and different shapes. The line also caters to different body types of the female body and different shapes as well all across the board which amazing. I’m especially impressed with the swimwear! I have never been one to drop beacuoup de cash on a bathing suit, but Andrea Iyamah swimwear has definitely changed my mind and immediately makes me want to take a vacation. I’m so excited to discover more black swimsuit designers.
Street Style
This next black owned business is a leather goods company that focuses on accessory goods for both men and women. Mifland is the ultimate cool brand in my opinion. The artisanship of all their products from wallets to handbags and rucksacks just blow me away. I am a lover of design, however there absolutely has to be some practicality /functionality in the design as well at least for me! Mifland does exactly that! If you aren’t the most confident person in the world, I would imagine walking around with any one of Mifland leather goods would change that immediately. Prepare to be shrouded in cool.
If you want to get involved in this movement for equality and change, support and shop black owned! In just one day shopping black owned businesses has proven to be impactful, not just on the businesses themselves, but the community they depend on. Very neat! I particularly liked the Miffland bags.
I have never heard of any of these brands, and I have to say that I love the Mifland backpacks! I’m obsessed with a good leather backpack, and ended up adding a few of them to my wishlist folder, aha! Great post xxx
